Overview
Join as we explore one of the world’s most remote and sought-after saltwater destinations, Christmas Island!
This is one of the few locations that has been on my list for as long as I can remember. I’ve always had a fascination with walk and wade bonefishing on endless, white sand flats. Not to mention chasing the Gangster of the Flats, the notoriously strong and aggressive Giant Trevally.
A few things of note about our trip and Christmas Island.
The Island has been closed since covid started. To make a long story short they reopened on April 4th of this year. The first flight in brought continued fears of covid for the small island and logistical challenges with the airport and Fiji Air.
The reopening of the island is currently in limbo, however local info seems to indicate that later this summer or early Fall/Christmas may open things up again.
This means a few things for our group.
- The island hasn’t been fished! Any trips booked within re-opening window will have the best fishing the island has seen in decades or more.
- Most lodges are not taking bookings until they are sure their guests can make it. Meaning there are almost no anglers booked this year at all. Great news for us.
