Imagine learning the fundamentals of fly casting and catching fish in beautiful Olympic Valley. Then testing your new found skills, chasing wild trout on the notoriously beautiful, Truckee River.

That’s why this is our #1 pick. You simply can’t go wrong!

The morning starts with our three hour Cast N’ Catch class on our private, stocked ponds, followed by your dream half or full day guide trip.

The class and trip can be on the same day, or on separate days.

Pond and River Package FAQs

Where do we meet?

For the class half- Everline Resort and Spa (formerly Resort at Squaw Creek). RSC is 15 min south of Truckee and 10 min north of Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe. MAP.

For the river half- Truckee River RV Park and East Side Deli, just 7 min east of Truckee. MAP.

What should we bring?

Dress for the weather, hat, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, water/snacks. A small backpack is a great idea for extra clothing and other items you may not want to carry.

What type footwear should we have?

For the class half- Water shoes/sandals are ideal, but any shoes other than flip flops will work. They may get wet/dirty walking around the ponds.

For the river half- We’ll provide you with boots and waders. But please have socks to wear under your waders, even in the summer.

Can we keep the fish?

No. All trips are catch and release using single barbless hooks.

Will we get confirmation info?

Once booked, Lulana will send our Welcome Packet with ALL of the logistics for your trip!

Are there lunch options?

This will depend on how you booked your package…

If you booked the class and guide trip on the same day, there will be time between the class and guide trip to grab a lunch.

You will pre-arrange this plan with your guide a few days prior to your booking.

If you booked your class and a full day add-on, on separate days than you have a few options.

You’re more than welcome to bring your lunch. Or if you’re looking to treat yourself to one of the famous hot or cold sandwiches at East Side Deli where we meet, we highly recommend it. You won’t regret it!

Who will we fish with?

For the class half- We cap our classes at a 5:1 student to instructor ratio. Exceptions may involve corporate groups or young children.

For the river half- Unlike our classes, Guide Trips are private to you and your group. We’ll never pair you with anglers you don’t know.

When’s the fishing season?

Since the Pond and River Package includes our ponds, this is only booked May-Fall, weather conditions permitting.

What's included?

All fishing gear, terminal tackle, boots & waders, and discount code to Matt’s online school, Find Your Cast.

What's not included?

Guide gratuity, CA fishing license (approx. $17) & 3% service charge.

Fishing license?

If you’re class day is separate from your river day, your fishing license is included for the class.

You will still need one for any river days.

All anglers 16 years and older need a minimum of a one day CA license.

You can buy and print your CA license HERE ahead of time.

Please have a printed, hard copy the day you fish with the correct date your booked on.

What's the cancelation policy?

For any cancelations outside of 30 days you will receive a full refund.

For any cancelations inside of 30 days will forfeit the deposit.

For any cancelations within 7 days your card will be charged in full.

Please note: We fish in all weather (rain, snow, sleet), except dangerous or hazardous conditions (ie: lightning/thunderstorms, State of Emergency snow storms, over 50 mph winds or Hazardous Air Quality conditions). In the event of one of those exceptions, we will either reschedule the class/trip if possible, or provide a refund.
