Mike needs our help.
For over 20 years, Mike Curtis has guided anglers on the Truckee and Pyramid Lake, and for the last 15, he’s been a cornerstone of the Matt Heron Fly Fishing family.
He’s the guy who celebrates every fish like it’s his own, who has the patience to teach first-timers, and the instinct to put seasoned anglers on the fish of their lives. But what makes Mike truly special isn’t just the fishing. It’s his heart. He’s kind, generous, quick with a laugh, and he genuinely cares about every single person he meets.

Earlier this year, leukemia, the same illness he fought so bravely 10 years ago, came back. He’s been in treatment for months, fighting with incredible resolve.
Thankfully, he’s now on the road to recovery, but the toll has been heavy. Guiding is hands-on work, and time away from the water means no income. After missing months of work, he’s back working part time, half days only. His treatment couldn’t not have hit at a worse time, the start of the busy summer season.
Mike isn’t just part of our team. He is family. He’s taken care of our guests for a decade and a half with compassion, professionalism, and care. And now, it’s our turn to take care of him.
Matt’s been lucky to spend countless hours in the boat with Mike, chasing some of the Truckee’s biggest browns with a streamer rod in hand. He’s one our top NV guide for a reason, and now it’s our turn to do something for him.

We’ve relaunched Mike’s GoFundMe to help with the financial strain while he focuses on healing, and gearing up for his fall season.
